Being a natural born artist (self-taught) with no formal training, child Prodigy, she had her first Art Show at age seven. Her mother, Myrle Marie Howard, recalls Hope trying to draw at a year and a half and cut her teeth on pencils. As a young child her health was poor, there were hard times, art supplies were not readily available, paints were substituted by using food coloring and shoe polish or enamels on cardboard. Hope’s father took no claim on her or her mother, so they managed with the help of her grandparents. Her mother married James William Howard who helped to raise Hope as his own. Teachers noticed that Hope had an artist’s eye for color, perspective and by the age of seven encouraged her to pursue art as a career. At the age of twelve she started earning her own money, got a job while going to school, working in a bakery decorating cakes and being trained for managership. While in high school Hope was involved in all the Arts: leads in school plays, all the art work, including school annuals and school paper (her own cartoon section), stage scenery, she even had her own chorus line she taught to dance for school plays, plus she sewed the costumes. Hope Marie also sang 1st soprano and was the only and first female student since the school was built (Faucett High School) to receive’ the Interscholastic Events Award for 1st Soprano Solo in 1954 (age 16) at the Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville and then the same year sang at University of Missouri Music Festival and received a Scholarship. She graduated from high school in 1956 and after school continued self-teaching herself in art so that she could become a good artist and teacher. She was married at age eighteen in 1956, teaching art and painting by 1957, traveled to Europe for three years, had three children, Richard C, James William McCall and Claudia Marie McCall White. She became a sign painter and built her own signs. She designed a new sign that sold well, and things became better. By 1969 she opened her own Art School and Gallery. She then had her own television Art Show on Channel 6, Fort Walton Beach, Florida every day for two years. Her art was then bought by private collectors throughout Europe and the United States. She does children’s book illustrations, greeting cards, cartooning, ad layouts, posters, etc. and also portraits, animals, scenes, still life, all with her creative styles, which are many.
