Employed by the University of Iowa as a Research Assistant, in September, of 1964. Present position is Director of Dental Services at the Mental Health Institute. In addition to the Dental Service, he was a member of the Mental Health Institute (A Mental Hospital) Fire Department for 32 years. During this time, he was the Fire Chief for 15 years, he has coordinated county fire school during this time period. During the research at the University of Iowa they were studying the brains of cats and rats, they also were attempting to grow nerves. His Medical staff and Dental staff are considered one department. He has been Chairman of the Medical Staff, twice, One year each. Presently, he is the Vice Chairman. The Hospital has a 6 chair Dental Clinic. The Clinic is and has been used for training Senior Dental & Senior Dental Hygiene students from the University of Iowa. Also Dental hygiene and Dental Assisting students from the Hawkeye Community College pursue practical training in the Clinic. Within the last few years, he has been working as an instructor with the Dental Hygiene Students at Hawkeye Community College. Approximately once a month, he works with a dental hygienist who places sealants in teeth for elementary & middle students in the Waterloo & Cedar Falls, Iowa Schools. Sealants are placed in the deep tooth grooves to help prevent cavities. |
